Good afternoon tes. I caught your post in the Topix forum about veterans being unable to get transportation for medical care. Like you, I am healthy and can drive myself to the clinic or hospital in Albuquerque if need be but that is not the point.
We veterans need to put our heads together and come up with solutions to the problems. For instance, we have a good clinic in Fort Sumner, with a very competent doctor, so why do I have to drive over 80 miles the the nearest V.A. clinic for checkups and to get prescriptions re-newed? They accept Medicare and Medicade, they even have a sliding scale for those that do not qualify for either one, but they will not accept veterans unless they can pay? In my book that is not acceptable. My tax money helps pay for the local clinic, I do not qualify for any assistance due to my income, so I have to pay again unless I want to drive the 80 miles to the V.A. clinic?
This is a problem for all vets that live in the rural parts of our state and we need to do something about it. But taking problems to our elected officials without possible solutions will do no good. I have found that out in the past while trying to get other things done for our little community so lets see some ideas here.
